ABDOMINAL SURGERY

ABDOMINOPLASTY

Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck is a cosmetic surgery procedure, performed to permanently remove excessive and loose abdominal fat ands skin.
The ultimate objective of this procedure is to improve and flatten the abdominal contour, tighten abdominal muscles and remove all loose and overhanging lower abdomen fat and skin.

Who is a candidate for Abdominoplasty?

  • Men and women who have excessive loose skin and fat on their abdomen that will not respond to normal diet and exercise.
  • Women who loose skin elasticity following significant weight gain, weight loss or pregnancy.

How is the procedure performed?

Abdominoplasty involves the surgical removal of surplus fat, tissue and skin through a conventional incision method. Although techniques for Abdominoplasty vary slightly between surgeons, a standard procedure usually involves detaching the loose abdominal skin and tissue from the umbilicus (belly button), permanently removing all the excess skin from beneath the umbilicus, making a new umbilical hole in skin that was once part of the upper abdomen and then re-draping and suturing that skin in place over the umbilicus and lower abdominal area. This repositioned skin from the upper abdomen is then firmly sutured or clipped in place along the lower abdomen and pubic hairline incision.

This procedure is performed under general anaesthetic and takes around 1 - 2 hours to perform, dependant on the size and complexity of each case. Following surgery the wound is supported with a firm elastic compression garment to help control swelling and bruising.

How long do you need to be hospitalised?

After Abdominalplasty procedure patient is required to remain in hospital between 4 – 5 days for observation.

Recuperation

Normally stitches or clips are removed around 10 - 14 days after surgery. Patients are strongly advised to avoid any excessive level of impact activity that would put undue strain on the newly operated areas, although gently walking progressive distances is actively encouraged. In order to help the newly shaped abdominal tissues and skin bond firmly together, patients are usually advised to wear their elastic support garment day and night for one week and then for a minimum of a further six weeks during the daytime.

MINI TUMMY TUCK

A mini tummy tuck is a cosmetic procedure that is used to remove excess skin and fat from around a person's waist. With the help of a mini tummy tuck, the patient can enjoy a flatter and younger looking abdomen without experiencing the same risks associated with the traditional tummy tuck.

Understanding the Mini Tummy Tuck Surgery

Mini tummy tuck surgery involves making an incision line in the area around the naval and then separating the skin. After the skin has been separated, a flap of skin is pulled down in order to remove excess fat and skin. In some cases, the surgeon may also repair gaps between muscle layers in order to strengthen abdominal muscles that have become stretched. After removing tissue and making repairs, the skin is then stitched back into place and results in a flatter and more toned looking abdomen.

How long do you need to be hospitalised?

After Mini Abdominalplasty procedure patient is required to remain in hospital between 4 – 5 days for observation.

Recuperation

After being released from the hospital or surgical center, the patient must wear special bandages and garments for about one month. These garments provide the additional support necessary to reduce pain and to expedite the healing process. Patients will be advised to take a specific amount of recovery time away from work, dependent on the type of job they perform, but it is usual to take least a fortnight off to rest and recover at home.
